Hard Surface Floor Care

Posted by National Paper Systems.com on 29th Aug 2014

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), floors and flooring materials contribute directly to more than 2 million fall injuries each year.

Compensation and medical costs associated with employee slip/fall accidents is approximately $70 billion annually (National Safety Council Injury Facts 2003 edition).

When choosing a floor care system or product, remember...

  • Always use a product system (finish, cleaner, maintainer, stripper) from the same manufacturer to ensure best results.
  • Make sure to choose the right floor chemical product combination for your maintenance and/or budget requirements.
  • Solids Content- Certain dissolved solids are present in the liquid form of a finish or sealer. Non-Volatile Solids (NVS) are residual solids after water and volatile components evaporate or what is left on the floor after the finish or sealer dries.
  • The old “Rule of 100% solids” is not necessary with modern, advanced polymer technologies. Solids content is no longer an accurate measurement of product coverage requirements and associated performance.
  • Ensure proper burnish pad matchup with the finish you choose to achieve the best results. Pads are not a “one size fits all” proposition.
  • For floor care demos, please contact your local sales representative.

Dilution Chart

Floor strippers and cleaners are generally found as concentrated formulas. This allows many more uses from a standard size bottle of chemical. Before use, it is necessary to add the concentrated solution to water according to label instructions on each product. Below is a quick reference dilution chart for the most popular concentrate to water ratios.

Why Maintain Floors?

  • Protection - The primary reason for maintaining any surface is to protect it
  • Safety - Clean, well maintained floors are safer, more slip resistant than dirty floors
  • Ease of Cleaning - Well maintained floors are faster and easier to clean
  • Appearance – Regular maintenance improves overall appearance and reduces strip cycles
