Keeping a clean and fresh office space in important for many reasons. Your employees will feel more comfortable in a clean and fresh smelling environment. Your clients will be left with a much better impression of your business if they are greeted by a clean office space. Finally, there are health benefits from working in a clean environment.

Clean Office, Happier Employees

Keeping a fulfilled and happy workforce is the best way to maximize productivity. One easy way to meet the needs of your workers is to offer them a clean office space. It is low cost and takes little time to implement.

Cloth-Covered and Composite Cubicles

Offices often use cloth covered cubical walls with composite board desk and shelf surfaces. These options work to soften sounds, are attractive and are cost efficient. Unfortunately, over time the cloth can hold odors. The shelving and desk surfaces can stain without proper care. Most cloth coverings can be spot cleaned with fabric safe cleaning chemicals with warm water and a scrubbing brush. Use a hand-held furniture shampooer with the proper cleanser and warm water for a more thorough clean.

Composite surfaces are more delicate than other types of surfaces. Be sure to use a cleaner without any harsh abrasives or scrubbing agents and a soft cloth. This will prevent any surface scratching from forming, further aging the surface. Instead, use a gentle cleaner or soap. If you are dealing with hard to clean stains such as coffee, you can use diluted bleach to spot treat as needed. Always pretest this treatment in a hidden area first!

Be sure to dust bookcases and other surfaces on a regular basis. Dusty books and other décor can be the detail that is the difference between a shipshape office and a messy business. Modern dusters and dusting sprays make quick work of this task.

Floors and Walls

Next you will need to tackle windows, walls and floors. Dirty glass keeps a room feeling dark and dingy. Keep them clean for a brighter and more cheery space. Wipe smaller windows with glass cleaner and newspaper. For larger windows you will want to use a squeegee to reach high and clean effectively. Be sure to clean interior glass windows and dividers as well.

Parts of walls that are touched frequently will develop a dirty appearance. Use warm water and a degreaser cleaner with soap to remove the greasy black build-up that can develop in busy corridors and at corners. Not only will your walls look fresher without the cost of repainting, your rooms will smell better.

Finish your office deep cleaning with your floors. Vacuum any carpets regularly. Sweep and mop wooden and tile surfaces. A good way to keep floors and carpets looking newer longer is to regularly shampoo carpets and use a corner scrubber along edges of walls.

Reap the Rewards

A spiffy office with clean fixtures, bright walls and fresh carpets is as inviting as a newly remodeled office - but at a fraction of the cost. Office workers will feel valued. You may also see health care costs go down. A regularly well-cleaned space can help control environmental exposure to dust, dander and building molds. Your clients will come away from your place of business with a positive first impression. A well maintained office space is well worth the time.
